Weather on the Maine coast is unpredictable. August temperatures range from 70s to 80s during the day and 50s to 70s at night. While it is typically one of the drier months, be prepared for inclement weather. Dorm rooms do not have air conditioners or fans.
What to Bring:
- Yoga mat (yoga blocks, straps, & blankets will be provided)
- Meditation cushion or bench (optional)
- Journal or notebook
- Comfortable clothing for yoga and meditation
- Bathrobe or nightclothes
- Extra towels for yoga class or swimming
- A light jacket and sweatshirt
- Comfortable shoes with good treads (for hiking or walking on wet rocks)
- Swimsuit
- Water shoes (for boating or swimming at rocky beaches)
- Sunscreen, sunhat, sunglasses
- Reusable water bottle
- Flashlight
What not to Bring:
Since some people are sensitive to fragrances, please do not wear perfumes or scented lotions. In order to promote a peaceful atmosphere, please keep the use of cell phones, MP3 players, laptops, etc. to an absolute minimum, especially in group settings. Please keep Seafox free of alcohol or other intoxicants. Smoking is not permitted in college facilities or in the adjacent outdoor areas.
College of the Atlantic:
College of the Atlantic sits on twenty-nine waterfront acres overlooking the ocean and is adjacent to Acadia National Park. The town of Bar Harbor is within walking distance of the campus and offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural events.
The college was founded in 1969 with the mission of educating students in human ecology. Human ecology integrates academic knowledge and personal experience to investigate and improve the relationships between humans and their social and natural environments. The college was recently featured is The New York Times for its ongoing commitment to sustainability and Grist Magazine has named it the “greenest college or university in the world.”
Michelle is grateful that College of the Atlantic, whose mission is consistent with Yogic and Buddhist values, will be hosting her retreat.
